Dr. Rakesh Maini was born in Nairobi. Kenya. He received his dental degree in 1976 from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in England, and earned his Canadian qualifications in 1977.
Prior to coming to Canada Dr. Maini Interned at the Royal Dental Hospital in London, England and was also in General Practice in London. In Canada, he started out by working with the Ontario Ministry of Health rendering dental care to school children from Mobile Dental Clinics in Northern Ontario remote outposts and lumber towns.
After two years, Dr. Maini took up an Associate position In Hamilton, Ontario while also on the teaching staff of the New Dentist Graduate’s Postgraduate Program at Hamilton General Hospital, and on the teaching staff of Niagara College Dental Assistants program and the Dental Hygienists program.
In 1981 Dr. Maini opened an office in Burlington, Ontario and after subsequent business ventures in Toronto and Kitchener/Waterloo, Dr. Maini couldn’t resist coming back to his friends and family In Burlington and re-opening his clinic.
Dr. Rakesh Maini is an active member of the Burlington Dental Academy Executive, plus a Past President. He is also one of the Burlington Dentist Councillors for the Ontario Dental Association and a member of the Canadian Dental Association. And is or has been a member of the Toronto Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, The Toronto Implant Study Club, and others. Apart from the provision of routine dental care, he has attended extensive postgraduate courses at the Las Vegas Institute on Cosmetic, Functional and Neuromuscular Dentistry. He holds a Fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantology. Dr. Maini is an Invisalign provider, and qualified to provide (stop) Snoring Guards, plus the Under Armour Armourbite Sport Performance Enhancement oral devices. His passion for and the delivery of Cosmetic Dentistry is well attested to by many of the residents of the community, and beyond.
Hobbies and Community Involvement
Dr. Rakesh Maini studied in Kenya, in England and Canada. He lives in Burlington with his wife Betty and their three young adult children. Out of the office, Dr. Maini enjoys being a Freemason, having been a Past Master of his Masonic Lodge, Wellington Square Lodge #725. He was also a Royal Arch Mason, Hiram 2 Chapter. He further contributes to the community by being a member of Burlington North Rotary Club and served on the Rotary Burlington Music Festival Board for two years.
For his leisure interests, he enjoys Road cycling, Horseback riding, Downhill skiing, Fly fishing, Photography, Reading, and Woodcarving, Plus building Decks and Sheds, and takes a keen interest in Bird feeding. He used to fly a private plane, but no longer has the time to continue with that recreation. He is knowledgeable about building and working with computers. His pursuit of education, learning and teaching is on-going, not only in attendance, but also in organizing events for courses and speakers. In his spare time, he loves to cook, paint artwork, and write novels; and he also does iron his own clothes! (with the help of his wife Betty). “Never a dull moment”. (Well, maybe now and then!).
